Immediate Mode GUI as State Monad

Having been toying with trying to make GUI applications for some time now I recently stumbled on the concept of Immediate Mode GUIs (IMGUI for short), this is contrasted with the more standard view of retained mode GUI. Having also an interest in functional programming and how user interaction works there I was wondering how IMGUI would look like in a more pure world. ImGUI, retained mode, State monad, what are you talking about?

Umbral Home

This is a short story I wrote after I got inspired by experiencing Furality Umbra, a Furry VR convention which was held from 6th of June till the 10th (2024). Though for most of the convention the experience was pretty similar to a normal furry convention near the end there was a light/music show at which I had a small revelation. Multiple Identities are Good Actually

Introduction Every once in a while the discussion if people should use real names online is brought up again. People in favor of this often claim that if a person would use their real name they will act more accountable, that it will improve engagement, or that you know who you are talking to1. The first can be disproven by a curious glance at the cesspool that is Facebook (the most famous place with a real name policy) and the second is of questionable utility anyway.

Why a Static Webiste?

As some people might have noticed this is a static website build on top hugo and you might be wondering why I choose to do it that way. Well a couple of reasons: I’ve always been a person who liked to keep presentation separate from content and thus wrote a lot of my longer papers in college in LaTeX (also long documents with lots of images and formulas are less likely to break) sure for something short (or something that needed to be shared with a group) I might have fired up word or libreoffice but on the whole a lot was written in LaTeX.

sRGB is for the web

Introduction I regularly see discussions on the internet over what to upload to the internet regarding color profiles. In this article I try to shed a light to why almost always you should upload sRGB at 8bit per color to the web. In short it has to do with what 99% of the internet will support and legacy file formats. Also until HDR TVs will become mainstream most people won’t have a display that is capable to show more then the sRGB color space.
